About us
Keepers of the Journal
We are a small, independent editorial team based in Preston, a town where football memory runs deep, from Deepdale's first league champions to the factory floor that produced Dick, Kerr Ladies.

Why we keep this journal
FableFjorSonicPicnc began with a simple irritation: lists of football's greatest players kept repeating the same few dozen names, nearly all of them from the television era. We knew, from grandparents, club historians and dusty programmes, that the game's family was much larger. This journal is our attempt to set more places at the table.
We write for fans who enjoy rediscovery: people who like to learn that a goalkeeper once held a sprint record, or that a factory team outdrew professional clubs. We do not rank players or settle arguments. We restore stories, one chapter at a time.
How we work
- Two sourcesEvery statistic is checked against at least two independent sources before we publish it.
- Ranges, not guessesWhere records disagree, we say so and show the range.
- Tradition labelledLovely but unproven stories are marked as tradition or anecdote.
- No invented quotesWe never put words into real people's mouths; pull quotes are our own.
- Open correctionsIf we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change.
Independent by design
The journal is published by Fablefjor Sonic Picnc Media Ltd. We are not affiliated with any club, league, federation or museum, and we accept no payment to feature a player. Images on this site are illustrative photographs of grounds, pitches and supporters, not archive photographs of the players described.
Spotted an error, or know a name we missed? Write to us; our best chapters began with a reader's letter.
